A member of our parish family loves to tell the story of a young woman who upon visiting Orcas Island for the first time is so inspired by what she has discovered that she goes to the bank to get enough money to call God. The teller, without missing a beat, tells her that she need not be concerned, “It’s a local call.”
Those of us who are fortunate enough to call Orcas Island home know why the young woman was so inspired. This is indeed a bit of paradise and a holy place that offers a sacred hospitality and spiritual renewal for all persons who live or visit here.
Emmanuel Episcopal Parish is a family-sized church of about two hundred members. We are a bit unique in that our membership includes year-round residents, part-time residents with second homes and many visitors who come to enjoy the beauty and attractions the Island has to offer.
Our identity as a congregation is best revealed in our Mission Statement:
As the historic village church, to love God and God’s creation with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves.
We are part of a larger family called the Diocese of Olympia and are members of the Episcopal Church and world-wide Anglican Communion comprised of some 80 million members, the second largest Christian body in the world.
Please visit our website to become better acquainted with us and discover how we translate our mission statement into action.
If you are a resident or new arrival to Orcas Island, please consider joining our church family. If you are a visiting vacationer, allow us to welcome you in the hope that you will find our church a place of rest and renewal.
We welcome all persons who seek God and a deeper knowledge of God to include members of all religious faiths.
